Book Donation to Second Graders Tees Off Wells Fargo Championship Community Efforts
Charlotte, NC, April 16, 2024— For the fourth year, the Wells Fargo Championship, in partnership with Atrium Health and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, announced that over 11,000 CMS second graders are receiving a book for summer reading this year.
Each student receives a “Reading Champs” box that includes a reading selection titled Book Uncle and Me, a pencil, a keychain, a frisbee from the Wells Fargo Championship, a bookmark donated by Atrium Health, and a letter from CMS Superintendent, Dr. Crystal L. Hill. Over 44,875 books have been donated through this partnership.
This book was chosen in collaboration with the CMS Director of Elementary Education. It helps prepare students for the first quarter 3rd grade literacy module which introduces students to the power of literacy and how people around the world overcome learning challenges. The module is intentionally designed to encourage students to embrace a love of literacy and reading.
“At the center of our tournament efforts is the goal to always do as much as we can to improve and support the community,” said Tournament Director Gary Sobba. “This partnership with Atrium Health and CMS has been wonderful — as we collectively put literature in the hands of students to help them grow educationally.”
Also, included is a voucher for a buy-one-get-one ticket offer to assist parents so they can bring their second grader to Quail Hollow Club to enjoy the Wells Fargo Championship one day during tournament week, May 6-12.
The tournament, on behalf of Champions for Education, has distributed over $30 million and raised awareness for numerous charitable foundations in the Charlotte area. For more information about the Wells Fargo Championship, please visit www.wellsfargochampionship.com or call 704-554-8101.
