Field Update World No. 13 Collin Morikawa Latest Top-Ranked Player in the Field
Currently 19 of the Top 25 Coming to Charlotte
Charlotte, NC, April 25, 2023— Collin Morikawa, winner of two major championships and a member of the victorious U.S Presidents Cup team here last fall, committed to compete in the Wells Fargo Championship as the PGA TOUR returns to Charlotte and Quail Hollow Club, May 1-7.
This will be the first career start in the Wells Fargo Championship for the 26-year-old.
Morikawa has won five times on the PGA TOUR, including the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 Open Championship. He started his TOUR career with 22 consecutive cuts made, the second-best start of a career only to Tiger Woods, who had 25.
The California native has five top ten finishes so far this year, including a T10 at the Masters Tournament a few weeks ago.
With his commitment, there are currently 19 of the top 25 players in the world scheduled to compete in the 20th Wells Fargo Championship next week.
They include Rory McIlroy (No. 3), Patrick Cantlay (No. 4), Xander Schauffele (No. 5), Matt Fitzpatrick (No. 6), Max Homa (No. 7), Viktor Hovland (No. 11), Sam Burns (No. 12), Morikawa (No. 13), Justin Thomas (No. 14), Cameron Young (No. 15), Tony Finau (No 16), Sungjae Im (No. 17), Tyrrell Hatton (No. 18), Tom Kim (No. 19), Kurt Kitayama (No. 20), Hideki Matsuyama (No 21), Shane Lowry (No 23), Sahith Theegala (No. 24), Tommy Fleetwood (No. 25).
Players have until 5:00 p.m. Eastern on April 29 to commit to the 156-player field and can withdraw from the tournament at any time.
