Wells Fargo Championship Donates $5.9 Million To Numerous Charlotte Area Foundations

Tournament generated more than $36 million in support for nonprofits overall

Charlotte, NC December 10, 2024— On behalf of Champions For Education, tournament officials announced today, a tournament record $5.9 million was raised for charity donations from this year’s Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club and previous net reserves.

From 2003 through 2024, the Wells Fargo Championship raised more than $36 million and created significant awareness for numerous organizations and charitable foundations in three regions in which it was staged—Charlotte, N.C., Wilmington, N.C., and the Washington, DC area. This year’s May event marked the final year of the Wells Fargo Championship.

This year, as in the past, Charlotte’s annual PGA TOUR event has been fortunate enough to touch organizations with various services and needs, including Levine Children’s Hospital, First Tee of Greater Charlotte, Teach for America, John Crosland School, Carolina Youth Coalition, CMS Foundation, Augustine Literacy Project, Heart Math Tutoring, Ronald McDonald House of Greater Charlotte, Promising Pages, Children of First Responders Rotary Golf Classic, Young Black Leadership Alliance, Discovery Place Nature Museum Project and YMCA of Greater Charlotte.  Specifically, $1 million will be donated to Hurricane Helene Relief efforts in Western North Carolina via Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (crisis assistance, veteran, and homeless services across the region), United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County (comprehensive recovery work and education programs), and Manna Food Bank (regional food bank).

“We are grateful that the support from Wells Fargo, fans, volunteers, our corporate partners and so many others has allowed us to make a positive impact through the years,” said Kendall Alley, on behalf of Champions For Education and the tournament staff. “We trust that the organizations and individuals we have had the opportunity to touch through the years, have and will continue to feel that impact going forward.”

“We are incredibly proud of our more than 20-year history with the Wells Fargo Championship and the significant boost it provided for local nonprofits,” noted Derek Flowers, Charlotte-based Chief Risk Officer for Wells Fargo. “Wells Fargo – The Bank of Doing – is committed to putting people and communities first. Doing goes far beyond the investments we make. It is the sum impact we have when we work together with local organizations to make Charlotte and other local communities stronger. Wells Fargo will continue to support the local community, our customers, employees and nonprofit organizations in many ways in this important market.”

“Since the beginning of our chapter in Charlotte, the Wells Fargo Championship has shared so much with us not only through funding but with activation during tournament week and actively participating in some of our programs throughout the year,” said Daniel Fogarty, Executive Director for The First Tee Greater Charlotte. “Additionally, they were supportive of our fellow chapters in the Wilmington, N.C. and D.C area when the tournament was staged outside of Charlotte. Our team is so grateful for the support of Wells Fargo and Champions For Education.”
